Rochester Police Deny Claims of Planting Evidence During Arrest
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester Police Department is responding to an incident that has generated interest on a local Facebook group, Spotted in Rochester.
The post centers on a traffic stop in a southeast neighborhood and was recorded by an apparent resident.
RPD Capt Moilanen said the traffic stop was made because a known drug suspect was in the car and was wanted on a warrant.
Allegations were made about an officer “planting” drugs in the vehicle.
Here is the reply from RPD:
“RPD takes allegations of misconduct against officers seriously. After investigating the incident, including review of citizen video and body camera video, we have determined the claim to be false. Probable cause existed in stopping the vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by a violent, prolific offender that Officers had probable cause to arrest based on a recent drug investigation. “
Moilanen says some drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle but no other arrests were made.
