
Rochester Police – Local Man Lost Thousands in Text Message Scam
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police are investigating a scam that cost a local man thousands of dollars.
A spokesperson says the 70-year-old victim reported that he received a text message last week indicating that his iPhone was corrupted. The Rochester man indicated the message urged him to immediately call a phone number with a Chicago area code in order to protect his bank information.

Police investigators were told by the man that he called the number and was instructed to withdraw funds from his account and purchase crypto currency. According to the victim, he made two transactions and lost a total of $14,300 to the scammers.
