Jury Finds Jacob Klaver Guilty in Josh Pigney’s Death

According to the Holmen Police Department, a La Crosse County jury found 39-year-old Jacob Klaver guilty on Thursday. He was accused of murdering 37-year-old Josh Pigney in Holmen on January 29, 2025.

The conviction carries a mandatory life sentence.

Victim Was Found Unresponsive in His Home

The Holmen Police Department reported last summer that Klaver was arrested in Winona several days after officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man at a residence. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later determined that he died from strangulation and blunt force trauma, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Charging documents indicated that investigators found evidence of a struggle at the scene, including blood and broken pieces of furniture. Prosecutors presented DNA evidence connecting Klaver to the crime. The jury also heard testimony from a former girlfriend of Klaver’s who was living with Pigney at the time of his death.
