Rochester School Will Open With In-Class and Distance Learning

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester’s Longfellow elementary school has released its plan for the new school year and it includes a mix of in-class and distance learning.

The school operates under a 45/15 learning program and follows a different schedule than other Rochester Public Schools.

Longfellow Principal Amy Adams says the new year will begin July 27th. She says during the first week, students in grades 1 - 5  will begin with their teacher from last year and gradually transition to their new teacher.

Because of a COVID-19 requirement to restrict capacity in the school to no more than 50-percent, students will only attend class twice a week. They will take part in distance learning the other two days. Fridays will be set aside for teachers and staff work.

This schedule will be in effect for the first two weeks.

The school intends to begin transitioning to the Minnesota Department of Education’s state-wide educational delivery model during its third week. The department is expected to release its plan on July 27th.

Longfellow has approximately 320 students
