Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A convicted Rochester sex offender is headed back to prison.

38-year-old Derek Thomas Jeter was charged earlier this year after Rochester police received cyber tips involving a dozen files of suspected child sexual abuse material that had been uploaded to Amazon photos. According to the criminal complaint, the IP address included in the tip was associated with a residence on Northern Valley Drive in Rochester.

The court document says Rochester police detectives learned Jeter, who had been categorized by the court as a Level 3 predatory offender, had previously registered the home as his address.

The charges alleged that investigators found at nearly 36 images considered to be child sexual abuse material stored in the Amazon account. The complaint says the materials involved sexually explicit images of children as young as seven to nine years old.

Court records show that Jeter had previous convictions for felony criminal sexual conduct and possession of child pornography as a predatory offender. In 2007, he was convicted of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a 15-year-old girl and was later sent to prison for 18 months after violating the terms of his probation.

A 2012 child pornography conviction resulted in a 45 month prison sentence.

In September, he entered into a plea agreement and admitted to a single count of possession of child pornography in exchange for the dismissal of another child pornography charge and one count of a predatory offender knowingly committing acts or failing to fulfill registration requirements.

Jeter was sentenced today to 51 months in prison. He was given credit for the 137 days he has been held in jail since his arrest earlier this year. He was also ordered to serve 15 years on conditional release after completing his prison term.
