The Rochester Today show with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell closed out 2014 with a meandering review of some of the top local stories of the year on Wednesday.

Tracy and Andy were in agreement that the ongoing Destination Medical Center process and the nasty winter were on top of the list.

The approval of the DMC plan was a no-brainer for the top story of 2013, but it also dominated the news and conversations in the community throughout 2014. While there was almost giddy excitement, there was also some trepidation this year as long time Rochesterites learned some well known businesses that have operated in the city for decades would be closing and the DMC was considered (not necessarily accurately) the culprit.

November gave us a scare that we were in for another horrible winter, but after an often balmy December, memories of the winter of 2013-2014 have begun to fade as the year comes to a close. Still, it has to be remembered as a top story of 2014. Who will ever forget the Polar Vortex, nearly 100 straight days without the temperature 40-degrees, and directions to keep a pencil thin stream of water running in faucets to prevent frozen pipes into early May!
