The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office charged 31-year-old Tommy Yang with 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct Wednesday. The criminal complaint says the girl reported the alleged sexual assaults in May 2021.

The girl told a Rochester police officer she had messaged Yang earlier that month on Instagram and that the two met four times after they started messaging. The girl reported Yang had inappropriately touched her during all of their meet-ups. She said Yang sexually assaulted her during the third and fourth meetings, which happened in mid-May 2021, according to the complaint.

The alleged assaults took place in a vehicle at a Rochester parking ramp, the parking lot at the Rochester Youth Baseball Complex and at a farm. The complaint indicates the teen had SANE exam, which is used to collect evidence of sexual assault.

Yang told law enforcement he knows the girl through volleyball and said they got together once. The complaint states Yang denied inappropriately touching or sexually assaulting the young girl. His first court appearance is set for September 20.
