Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester woman is the latest defendant to plead guilty in the massive Feeding our Future Fraud scheme.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office of Minnesota announced the guilty plea on Monday. 

The Rochester restaurant principal admitted to federal charges in the $250 million fraud scheme in U.S. District Court on Friday.

Federal Court Documents: Rochester Woman Spent Taxpayer Dollars on Homes in Rochester, Ohio & Mediterranean Coast

45-year-old Ayan Jama was accused of falsely claiming to have served 2,000 to 3,000 breakfasts and lunches to children on a daily basis from December 2020 through January 2022 through a local restaurant she was affiliated with called Brava. 

The restaurant was enrolled in the nutrition program through a sponsorship by the Feeding Our Future organization, the news release says.

Court records allege Jama received $5.3 million in federal funds through reimbursement payments for the restaurant.

Jama used the federal funds to buy a $254,041 home in Rochester, $168,000 to buy a home located in Columbus, OH and $356,795 to purchase property on the Mediterranean Coast in Alanya, Turkey, according to federal court documents.

On Friday Jama pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of money laundering. Her sentencing has not yet been scheduled. 

Last week, Brava’s owner, 37-year-old Sharmake Jama, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud for his role in the massive fraud scheme. He is also scheduled to be sentenced at a later date.
