Rochester’s 2016 Summer Ranked 14th Wettest
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The weather numbers are in for Rochester’s Summer of 2016.
The National Weather Service says Rochester's 2016 meteorological summer (June 1st through August 31st) was the 14th wettest on record. The agency says the Rochester International Airport received 16.58 inches of precipitation. This was 2.83 inches wetter than the 1981- 2010 normal of 13.75 inches. This made it the wettest since 2007 when 19.14 inches of rain fell (6th wettest summer ever). The wettest summer occurred back in 2000 when 23.34 inches of rain fell. Seven of the 16 wettest summers have occurred since 1999.
It was slightly warmer than normal during the three month period. The Weather Service says the average temperature was 70.1 degrees. This was .7 degrees warmer than 1981-2010 normal of 69.4 degrees. The hottest temperature was 93 degrees on June 10th. The coldest high temperature was 67 degrees on June 23rd. The coldest temperature was 48 degrees on June 8th. The warmest low temperature was 78 degrees on July 21st.
The temperature reached 90 degrees on 3 days. Normally there are 10 days. Temperatures averaged above normal on 51 days, below normal on 36 days, and normal temperatures on 5 days.
