The 24,000 square foot Staples Store near Target North, which opened in 2001, closed on Friday.

Thanks to a tip from a listener, I reached out to the store on Friday and employees confirmed what my source reported, that they were closing. Not just temporarily, but permanently.

The employee, who did not want to be named, said they didn't understand why they were closing. A recent story on Fox Business says Staples was refusing to pay April rents. telling their landlords the loss of revenue was their problem, not Staples.

The Staples website gives no indications of closings, and their Facebook page has not been updated since March 25th (about their refocus on cleaning supplies and PPE). However, in USA Today, the CEO said they were keeping stores open during the Coronavirus pandemic.
