Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southeast Minnesota sex offender has been accused of attempting to sexually assault a young girl.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Thursday. The charges say the alleged sexual advance happened at a Rochester group home last week. 

The victim in the case is under the age of 14. Rochester police responded to the report of the alleged sex assault attempt on Monday, the complaint says.

Charges: Southeast Minnesota Predatory Offender Attempted to Sexually Assault Girl at Rochester Group Home

Investigators learned the child was visiting a group home in Rochester and was playing hide-and-seek with one of the residents, identified in the complaint as 26-year-old Ethan Hunter Johnson.

During an interview with law enforcement, the girl said Johnson exposed himself to her while the two were in his room. The Rochester man then pulled down the victim’s pants and attempted to touch her private area, the charges say. 

Rochester police arrested Johnson on Tuesday. The charges say Johnson moved out of the group home to a different address in Rochester after alleged attempted child sexual l assault and did not complete a change of information requirement.

Court records indicate Johnson was convicted of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Winona County in 2019 and was required to register as a predatory offender as a result of the conviction. 

Johnson is charged with felony first and second-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct and gross misdemeanor indecent exposure. 

He was released without bail following his first court appearance on Thursday and is due back in court in February.
