Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An Olmsted County jury acquitted a Rochester man charged in an apartment complex shooting that occurred over two years ago.

The jurors returned the not guilty verdict on Friday. 

The exchange of gunfire occurred at the Ashland Place apartment complex at 1990 Ashland Dr. NW in May of 2023.

Jury Acquits Rochester Man for 2023 Shooting at Ashland Place Apartments

Court documents identify the shooters as 28-year-old Joshua Adams and 25-year-old Michael King Junior of Rochester. The two men were involved in a dispute prior to the gunfire exchange, the court filings say.

King Jr. told Rochester police he went to the apartment complex to retrieve a set of keys when Adams fired on him first. King Jr. said he returned fire, shooting nine of 10 rounds before Adams returned to the building, according to court documents. 

No injuries were reported.

King Jr. faced charges of second-degree assault and drive-by shooting towards a person. The jury acquitted him of both charges. 

In January Adams entered a guilty plea to a charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. He was scheduled to be sentenced in June, but failed to show up at his hearing.

Adams was taken back into custody in August and is due back in court in November.
