The temperatures have begun to drop making for beautiful football weather across southeast Minnesota Friday night.

There were a couple of big-time matchups across the area including in Chatfield, where the #1 ranked in Class AA Chatfield Gophers took on the #3 ranked in Class AA Caledonia Warriors on Homecoming for the Gophers.

#1 Chatfield Tops #3 Caledonia 19-6 In Defensive Showdown

Chatfield scored on their first possession when Luke Carrier ran into the endzone from 8-yards out, but the defenses were able to lock things down from there. Both teams were able to force turnovers and keep each other from scoring until the half when the Gophers led 6-0.

Chatfield's Sam Backer then connected with Cole Johnson for the only score of the 3rd quarter. A a 70-yard touchdown and the Gophers took a 12-0 lead.

Into the 4th, the Warriors offense was able to take advantage of a short field and plunge in a touchdown of their own to make it a one-score game when Eric Mauss ran in a touchdown from one yard out with about 4:30 to go in the game.

The Gophers were facing a 3rd and 20 from their own five when Backer dropped back to pass and threw a deep ball down the right side of the field to Johnson. Caledonia was flagged for pass interference, giving the Gophers a chance on a 3rd and 5. Backer ran for 4 yards setting up a crucial 4th down.

After the Warriors took a timeout, the Gophers took two straight timeouts after that as both teams were setting up their offense and defense to get the exact look they wanted.

Caledonia crowded the line of scrimmage, looking to stuff the run.

Chatfield, with the ball on their own 24-yard-line, put the ball in the hands of Backer. He took the direct snap and bounced a run to the right side of the line, shot through the line of scrimmage, and ran 76-yards for a touchdown.

The Gophers came away with the 19-6 victory in what was an incredible game between two very good football teams. The defenses were fantastic all night for the Warriors and the Gophers, but it was Chatfield who was able to come away with the victory in Week 6.

Chatfield moved to 6-0 with the win and takes on Triton at home next week in a Thursday night game. The Warriors, 5-1, will head to St. Charles to battle the Saints in Week 7 action.

#1 Stewartville Takes Down #10 Kasson-Mantorville 31-10

The #1 ranked Tigers continued their winning ways in Week 6, beating rival Kasson-Mantorville 31-10. The Tigers moved to 6-0 on the season and will take on 5-1 Winona next week. Kasson-Mantorville fell to 4-2 and will travel to take on Red Wing next week.

The Tigers are averaging over 52 points per game this season while allowing just 5.5. It has been an impressive season for the Tigers and will have another tough test next week against Winona who has allowed just 12 points per game defensively.

#5 Rochester Lourdes Beats #7 Plainview-Elgin-Millville 27-8

Rochester Lourdes has won five straight games after dropping their season opener on the road in Chatfield with wins over previous #1 Cannon Falls and now #7 PEM, the Eagles are 5-1 and are playing some of their best football of the season. Lourdes will travel to Zumbrota to battle Zumbrota-Mazeppa (1-5) next week.

PEM fell to 4-2 with the loss and will face LaCrescent (2-4) on the road next week. The Bulldogs two losses have come to Cannon Falls and Rochester Lourdes, and look to be a strong team once the Section playoffs come around.

Grand Meadow Beats Southland in Thrilling Shootout 56-42

Southland jumped out to a quick lead over Grand Meadow, and built a two-score lead at the break. Grand Meadow was able to find its groove offensively in the 4th quarter and storm all the way back and get the 56-42 win over the Rebels.

Grand Meadow moved to 4-2 on the season and will take on Lyle/Pacelli (3-3) on the road next week. Southland (0-6) will take on Sleepy Eye St. Mary's at home next week.

Rushford-Peterson Wins OT Thriller Over Randolph 36-28

Rushford-Peterson and Randolph were in a back and forth battle throughout, but it was R-P who was able to come out on top in OT. The Trojans scored first, and then the defense played an aggressive OT session to stop the Rockets and secure the 36-28 win. R-P moved to 5-1 with the win and will take on Hayfield (2-4) at home next week. Randolph fell to 3-3 and host Kenyon-Wanamingo (3-3) next week.

#5 Fillmore Central Beats Kenyon-Wanamingo 41-8

The Fillmore Central Falcons offense and defense are playing complementary football as they moved to 6-0 with a win over Kenyon-Wanamingo Friday night. The 5th ranked Falcons are averaging over 30-points per game and allow just over 8 points per game defensively. Fillmore Central will go on the road and take on Wabasha-Kellogg (0-6) next week. Kenyon-Wanamingo will travel to Randolph to take on the Rockets (3-3) next week.

Mabel-Canton Takes Down Houston 59-6

Mabel-Canton moved to 5-1 on the season with a strong win over Houston (0-6). The Cougars offense has been really finding its groove the last two weeks, scoring on nearly every offensive possession they've had. The Cougars draw a tough matchup with #2 Lanesboro (6-0) on the road next week. We will have the action on 103.1 KFIL Friday night in Lanesboro. Houston will host LeRoy-Ostrander (1-5) next week.

Bethlehem Academy Beats Wabasha-Kellogg 56-14

Bethlehem Academy picked up a big win over Wabasha-Kellogg Friday night to move to 4-2 on the season. BA will travel to Winona to take on Cotter next week in an 8pm kickoff at Winona State. Wabasha-Kellogg (0-6) will host #5 ranked Fillmore Central.

Goodhue Tops St. Charles 41-7

The Goodhue Wildcats (4-2) picked up a win over St. Charles in Week 6 action. The Wildcats two losses this season have come against a tough Cannon Falls team (ranked #6 in Class AAA) and Caledonia (ranked #3 in Class AA). The Wildcats will head on the road to take on Dover-Eyota (4-2) in Week 7. St. Charles fell to 1-5 on the season with the loss, and will host host #3 Caledonia Friday night.

Kingsland Beats Lyle/Pacelli 42-22

Kingsland moved to 3-3 on the season behind their strong rushing attack en route to a 42-22 win over Lyle/Pacelli. The Knights will host #6 Spring Grove (6-0) in Week 7. Lyle/Pacelli fell to 3-3 with the loss and will host Grand Meadow (4-2) next week.

#2 Lanesboro Runs to 54-22 Win Over Nicollet

The Lanesboro Burros jumped out to a quick lead over Nicollet and held on for the 54-22 lead. The #2 ranked Burros moved to 6-0 with the win and will host Mabel-Canton (5-1) next week. We will have the action on 103.1 KFIL. Nicollet fell to 2-4.

Triton Tops Lewiston-Altura 48-8

Triton (3-3) was able to score quickly to build up a lead over Lewiston-Altura in Dodge Center Friday night. The Cobras will now turn their attention to Chatfield as they battle the #1 ranked Gophers (6-0) in Chatfield Thursday night. Lewiston-Altura (0-6) will travel to Lake City and battle the Tigers (2-4).

#6 Cannon Falls Win Shootout Over LaCrescent 60-49

Cannon Falls lost on a last-second field goal last week to Rochester Lourdes, but was able to bounce back against a tough LaCrescent team in week 6. The Bombers (5-1) won the shootout by utilizing a strong run game en route to the win. Cannon Falls will take on Pine Island (0-6) at home next week. The Lancers (2-4) will take on #7 ranked PEM (4-2) next week at home.

Hayfield Beats Cotter 35-14

Hayfield moved to 2-4 on the season with a big win over Cotter in Week 6. The Vikings will head on the road next week as they take on Rushford-Peterson (1-5). Cotter fell to 1-5 and will host Bethlehem Academy next week at Winona State.

#9 Rochester Mayo Tops New Prague 42-14

Rochester Mayo bounced back with a big win over New Prague after suffering their first loss of the season last week to #1 Mankato West. The Spartans (5-1) will take on Austin (1-5) at home next week. New Prague fell to 3-3 on the season and will travel to Owatonna (4-2) next week.

Owatonna Gets Win Over Rochester John Marshall 60-6

Owatonna's offense erupted for 60 points en route to the big win over Rochester John Marshall Friday night. Owatonna moved to 4-2 on the season and will host New Prague (3-3) next week. Rochester John Marshall fell to 0-6 on the season and will take on Rochester Century (1-5) at Rochester Century in Week 7.

Lake City Tops Zumbrota-Mazeppa 21-13

Lake City got back on the winning side of things after a 21-13 win over Zumbrota Mazeppa. The Tigers (2-4) will host Lewiston-Altura (0-5) next week at home. While the Cougars (1-5) will host Rochester Lourdes (5-1).

Northfield Wins With a Shutout of Rochester Century 41-0

Northfield moved to 4-2 with a big win over Rochester Century, who fell to 1-5 on the season. Northfield has a huge matchup in Week 7 as they go on the road to take on #1 Mankato West. Rochester Century will battle cross-town rival Rochester John Marshall (0-6) at home.

Winona Wins with Shutout of Faribault 22-0

Winona moved to 5-1 on the season with a shutout win over Faribault. The Winhawk defense will be put to the test in Week 7 when they battle #1 Stewartville (6-0) on the road. The Winhawks allow just 12 points per game, while the Tigers offense averages over 52 points per game. Faribault fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss and takes on Mankato East (2-4) next week.

GFW Tops Blooming Prairie 38-20

GFW picked up the win over Blooming Prairie in Week 6 acation. Blooming Prairie fell to 3-3 with the loss and will take on NRHEG next week on the road for a Thursday night matchup. GFW moved to 5-5 on the season with the win.

Spring Grove Tops LeRoy-Ostrander Saturday 50-21

The Spring Grove Lions stayed undefeated with a big 50-21 win over LeRoy-Ostrander. The Lions (6-0) will head to Spring Valley to battle the Kingsland Knights (3-3). Two high-powered offenses will meet in Spring Valley as the Lions average 49 points per game while Kingsland averages 31. LeRoy-Ostrander (1-5) will travel to Houston to take on the Hurricanes (0-6) next week.
