Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester area is included in a severe thunderstorm watch that covers a large area of eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

The severe thunderstorm watch, issued by the National Weather Service this afternoon, will be in effect until 10 PM. In the southeast corner of the state, the watch area includes Olmsted, Goodhue, Dodge, Mower, Fillmore, Houston, Winona, and Wabasha counties.

The National Weather Service says a surface cold front marching across Minnesota is expected to begin producing strong thunderstorms by the late afternoon along and west of the I-35 corridor. Those storms are forecast to travel to the east and southeast and could produce damaging winds and hail before exiting the region late tonight. There is the potential for 1 to 2-inch diameter hail and wind gusts of 60-70 mph.
