Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Those looking to beat the incoming heatwave in Rochester got some good news on Friday. 

Silver Lake Splash Pad Reopens Friday, New McQuillan Park Splash Pad to Open Saturday

The National Weather Service is warning of extreme heat building in southeast Minnesota beginning Sunday, with heat index values reaching the triple digits across the area.

The City of Rochester announced on Friday that splash pads at the new Silver Lake Pool and at McQuillan park will be available this weekend.

The Splash pad at the Silver Lake Pool will reopen on Friday and the McQuillan Splash Pad is set to welcome its first users on Saturday. 

Mechanical Issue That Closed Silver Lake Splash Pad Fixed

The Silver Lake Pool Splash Pad was closed on Wednesday due to a mechanical issue. 

A news release issued by the city indicated the issue stemmed from part failure and that a replacement was ordered to restore the splash pad’s operations. It reopened on Thursday. 

The splash pad is open daily from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and is free to use.

McQuillan Park Splash Pad Opens Saturday

Crews completed construction on the splash pad at McQuillan Park earlier this year. The city had hoped to have it opened by 4th of July, however that opening was delayed by a pending state inspection

Friday’s announcement from the city indicates the state inspection has been completed. 

The splash pad is also free to use and is open 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily.

Chester Woods Swimming Beach Remains Closed

East of Rochester, the Chester Woods Swimming Beach remains closed.

Officials closed the beach on Wednesday after a water test yielded a result that showed elevated levels of E.Coli bacteria

The beach is set to reopen once the levels drop to a healthy range, officials say. Watercraft rentals at the Olmsted County park remain available.
