Oak Park Heights, MN (KROC-AM News) - A 59-year-old inmate of the Minnesota State Prison at Oak Park Heights suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in an assault inside the prison this afternoon.

A statement from the Minnesota Department of Corrections says the victim was found bleeding from his head and was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. A 22-year-old inmate was secured and is currently being held in administrative segregation while the incident is investigated. Officials say a preliminary investigation indicates the suspect punched the victim, who struck his head while falling and was then kicked about his head and face after he was on the ground.

The incident occurred just after 12 noon in the canteen area of the 473-bed prison.
