Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A well-known Rochester native who has served as a District Judge for more than two decades is retiring.
Governor Tim Walz today directed the Minnesota Commission on Judicial Selection to begin accepting applications for the vacancy in the state's Third Judicial District that will be created by Judge Kevin Lund's upcoming retirement. The person ultimately selected to succeed Judge Lund will be chambered in Mower County.
Lund was appointed to the bench by Governor Jesse Ventura on June 15, 2001. The Mayo High School graduate earned his law degree from Hamline University in 1980 and was employed as a private practice attorney in the Rochester area for 20 years before becoming a judge. During that time, he was elected to the Rochester School Board and served on the boards of multiple community organizations, including the Rochester Downtown Development Advisory Board, Olmsted County Historical Society, Rochester Historic Preservation Committee, and Community Food Response.
Judge Lund's decision to retire follows the recent death of his younger brother, long-time KTTC-TV Sports Director Pat Lund.
Anyone wishing to apply for the judgeship is asked to contact the Governor's office via email at Judicial.Selection@state.mn.us. The deadline to apply is 4 PM on May 20. The Commission on Judicial Selection plans to conduct interviews in early June before making a recommendation to Governor Walz.
