MONTEVIDEO, Minn. (AP) — Two brothers have died after a small airplane crashed soon after takeoff in western Minnesota.

The Chippewa County sheriff's office says the two-passenger plane crashed about 3:45 p.m. Sunday into a soybean field on the northern edge of Montevideo.

Killed were Mark Schultz of Sleepy Eye and 51-year-old Steven Schultz of Brooklyn Center. The Star Tribune reports authorities have not said who was piloting the plane.

According to the sheriff's office, soon after taking off from the Montevideo-Chippewa County Airport the plane turned left and the right wing "just went straight up, like it had caught a gust of wind" before crashing.
