Up in Smoke: Two House Fires in Three Days in Winona
Winona, MN (KROC-AM News)- Several residents in Winona are without a home after being displaced by two different fires.
The Winona Fire Department has fought two house fires over a span of three days. The first fire broke out on Christmas Eve and the second happened on Tuesday.
Crews were dispatched to a fire at a dwelling in the 300 block of Mankato Ave. shortly before 10 p.m. on Dec. 24. The home’s occupants were able to escape the home before crews arrived.
Officials say the two-story structure suffered fire, heat, smoke and water damage. Pictures taken at the scene show what appears to be smoke coming from the second floor of the home.
Tuesday’s fire occurred in the 850 block of West 5th St. around 1:15 p.m. Firefighters were dispatched to the multi-family residence on the report of a possible explosion and fire.
Responding crews found and extinguished a fire in one of the home’s rooms. The fire fight closed a section of 5th St.
Officials say no injuries were reported in either fire. An extent of the damage along with a damage estimate are not yet available for the two homes.
The American Red Cross responded to both fires to assist the displaced residents. The cause of each fire is unknown as of Wednesday morning.
The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating both house fires.
