Update: Somber Turn in Search for Minnesota Man Missing at Yellowstone National Park 

Yellowstone National Park, WY (KROC-AM News)- The National Parks Service is now asking for the public’s help with finding a southeast Minnesota man who disappeared in Yellowstone National Park.

A news release says a search and rescue operation started on Saturday. He was reported missing after failing to arrive for his boat pickup on Friday following a week-long backcountry trip to summit Eagle Peak. 

Officials have identified the missing man as 22-year-old Austin King of WinonaHe was last heard from on Tuesday, September 17, when he called friends and family from the peak in the remote southeast corner of the park, the news release says.

King, who the news release says is a concession employee at the park, reported fog, rain, sleet, hail and strong winds while he was at the summit.

The young Winona man is described as 6’, weight 160, brown hair, hazel eyes, wearing glasses, a black sweatshirt and gray pants. 

Search efforts so far have involved ground and air operations. Officials have also deployed dogs and unmanned aircraft. 

The Parks Service is asking anyone visiting the area who encounters King or anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Yellowstone Interagency Communications Center at 307.344.2643.
