for about two hours and players and fans were sent to a gymnasium on lockdown due to shots fired nearby.

Medford Police Chief Ken Coyer tells WJFW-TV a man opened fire around 3 p.m. just down the street from Medford Area Senior High School. He says the game was stopped as a precaution.

The station reports no one was injured in the shooting.

The chief tells WEAU-TV a 19-year-old male suspect is in custody at the Taylor County Jail.

The Chippewa Herald says the game was tied when it was halted but Chippewa Falls went on to beat Medford, 22-14.
