Randolph, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Dakota County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the young boy who was killed in an ATV crash Tuesday evening near his home.

The deadly incident occurred in the town of Randolph about 5 miles west of Cannon Falls. A news release says 9-year-old Carter Nikolai was driving a smaller sized ATV over dirt piles on an open lot near his family's residence when the machine rolled over on top of him.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office was alerted to the accident around 6:30 p.m. and the responding deputies found the child unresponsive and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one witnessed the rollover, which was reported by a passerby who found the boy unresponsive under the ATV.
