Isanti, MN (KROC-AM News) - A recent string of tragic incidents on Minnesota highways continued today with a crash that claimed two lives.

The Isanti County Sheriff's Office says deputies and other emergency personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash at a rural intersection in Athens Township shortly after 2 PM. The crash site is in an area just south of Isanti in east-central Minnesota.

According to a news release, the responding deputies were able to immediately determine that a man driving one of the vehicles was already dead. The statement says lifesaving measures were attempted on the second driver, also an adult male, who also died at the scene.

The two drivers were the lone occupants of the vehicles. Their names have not been released.

The deadly crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol.


 

The fatalities followed the deaths of three other people on Minnesota roads over the weekend. A 66-year-old Twin Cities woman died Saturday night after she was struck by a vehicle on I-94 near the Twin Cities airport.

Another Twin Cities resident, a 68-year-old South St. Paul man, was killed in a single vehicle crash Saturday morning along Highway 61 in St. Paul Park. The other fatality occurred Friday night in northeastern Minnesota, where a woman was struck by a vehicle on a rural road about 40 miles northwest of Duluth.
