Almost 6 Years in Prison For Beer Bottle Assault at Rochester Bar
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been sentenced to just under 6-years in prison for assaulting a Stewartville man.
The prison term is an upwards departure from state sentencing guidelines, which followed a decision by an Olmsted County Jury to convict 38-year-old James Halverson of second and third-degree assault with circumstances warranting aggravated sentences. Halverson was also found not guilty of a first-degree assault charge at the end of his trial in March.
Halverson was arrested two days after he struck the other man on the face with a beer bottle at Dooley's Pub in the early morning hours of May 8, 2019. The victim, who was 26 years old at the time, required surgery to repair a severe facial laceration.
