Apartment Project Boosts Rochester September Construction Totals

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - New home construction activity remained lackluster last month in Rochester, but overall construction activity was robust.

The City Building Safety Department approved 35 permits for new single-family homes in September. The total was up slightly from the previous month but was almost 20 lower than the tally from the same month last year. The new homes approved last month were valued at about $11 million, a total that got a big boost from a permit taken out by Summit Custom Homes for a $2.8 million dollar residence in southwest Rochester.

The overall building permit total last month was 210 with a valuation of $47.6 million. 42-percent of that total, or about $20.3 million, was tied to the valuation of the permit issued for 152 unit Riverwalk Downtown City Apartments along East Center Street adjacent to Mayo Field.

Since the beginning of the year, the city has issued 2031 building permits valued at almost $393 million. That’s about $50 million above the valuation total through the first nine months of last year.
