At Capacity Workforce Slowing Minnesota Job Growth
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - State officials say the latest jobs report from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development suggests the state’s workforce is operating near its capacity.
The latest statistics indicate the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was steady at 3.3-percent from April to May, while the rate for last month was up almost half a percentage point when compared to May of last year. State officials say Minnesota only saw a net gain of 100 jobs in May and the job gains from April have been revised downward from 3600 to only 200.
DEED Commissioner Steve Grove says the tight labor market continues to represent a major challenge to job growth in Minnesota. Over the past year, Minnesota has only added about 4200 jobs for a job growth rate of just a tenth of a percent.
