
Austin Woman Sentenced for 25-Year Social Security Fraud Scheme
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southeast Minnesota woman convicted in a multi-decade scheme to defraud the Social Security Administration has been sentenced.

She entered a guilty plea in the federal case in April. The U.S. Attorney’s Office of Minnesota says she stole over a quarter-million dollars during the years of fraud.
“This wasn’t free money. It was taxpayer money, stolen from a program built on the hard work of Minnesotans who paid in every paycheck. Cases like this are part of the broader fraud crisis gripping our state, where too many see taxpayer programs as their own personal piggy banks,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson.

Austin Woman for Fraudulently Obtaining $360K in Social Security Benefits
54-year-old Mavious Redmond of Austin was accused of collecting social security benefits under her mother’s name for 25 years after her mother’s death, which happened in January of 1999.
Federal prosecutors alleged the fraud scheme involved her impersonating her mother during two trips to a Social Security Administration Office this past June.
She’s accused of filling out an application by filling in her mother’s information and forging her signature.
In all Redmond is accused of swindling $360,000 in Social Security funds.
A news release issued by the U.S. Attorney says Redmond has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison. She’ll be on supervised release for a year following her time behind bars.
