Brave Refusal Leads to Arrest in Attempted Rochester Knifepoint Robbery
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An attempted knife point robbery in Rochester was thwarted by a victim’s refusal to comply with the alleged robber’s demands.
That’s according to documents filed Monday in Olmsted County Court. The case stems from an incident reported to the Rochester Police Department on April 5.
The criminal complaint says a man was walking home from work on the morning of April 4 when a subject, later identified as 30-year-old Kahlid Mohamed of Rochester, approached him near the intersection of 18 ½ Ave. and 22nd St. Northwest. The victim alleged Mohamed told him he could not pass and demanded the man hand over his wallet as he showed the victim a knife.
The victim told police he said no and stared at Mohamed, who then slowly retreated from the area. The complaint says police recognized the suspect as Mohamed based on the victim’s description.
Court documents say the victim confirmed Mohamed as the suspect when investigators showed him a photo of Mohamed. Police then arrested Mohamed on Saturday without further incident.
Mohamed was arraigned on a felony charge of first-degree attempted aggravated robbery. The judge in the case released him without bail but with conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 26.
