Rochester Man Pleads Guilty After Construction Site Burglary Tools Bust

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A burglary thwarted by Rochester police has resulted in a guilty plea.

36-year-old Trenton James Hagan was arrested on the night of April 4.

The criminal complaint says Rochester police found him at a construction site after responding to an alarm call.

Responding officers located a running vehicle at the scene of the unnamed construction site and saw copper pipes and various tools inside of the vehicle, the complaint indicates.

Officers then stopped Hagan after seeing him exit the west side of the building and run east. A search of Hagan’s person led to the discovery of snips, which are typically used to cut copper wire, the complaint says.

The Rochester man admitted the vehicle at the scene was his, the court document states.

Further examination of the vehicle led to the discovery of a rubber straw with residue and a ball of tinfoil. A K-9 was summoned to the scene and alerted officers to the presence of drugs, the charges say.

Police found a baggie containing 0.67 grams of a powder that tested positive for cocaine, 11 pills that tested positive for cocaine and a BB gun during a subsequent search of the vehicle, the complaint says.

Hagen was charged with felony counts of second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, fifth-degree drug possession and a gross misdemeanor charge of carrying a BB gun in a public place.

Terms of Plea Agreement

He entered a plea agreement in which he agreed to plead guilty to the burglary tools possession and drug possession charges in exchange for the dismissal of the other counts.

Hagen also agreed to plead guilty to a count of misdemeanor theft in an unrelated case.

His sentencing date has been set for late September.
