Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Charges have been filed against the suspect in a Rochester construction burglary that was thwarted by police officers.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Monday. 

The court document says a Rochester police officer caught the suspect at the scene shortly before 11:30 Saturday night.

Officers responded to an alarm call at the unnamed work site and found a running vehicle at the scene. There were copper pipes and various tools inside of the vehicle, the complaint says.

Police then saw a man exit the west side of the building and run east. An officer stopped the man and identified him as 36-year-old Trenton James Hagan of Rochester

A search of Hagan’s person led to the discovery of snips, which are typically used to cut copper wire, the complaint says. Hagan admitted the vehicle at the scene was his. 

Drugs & BB Gun Found During Vehicle Search

Further examination of the vehicle led to the discovery of a rubber straw with residue and a ball of tinfoil.

A K-9 was summoned to the scene and alerted officers to the presence of drugs, the charges say.

Police found a baggie containing 0.67 grams of a powder that tested positive for cocaine, 11 pills that tested positive for cocaine and a BB gun during a subsequent search of the vehicle, the complaint says.

Hagan is facing felony counts of second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, fifth-degree drug possession and a gross misdemeanor charge of carrying a BB gun in a public place. 

He was released without bail following his first court appearance on Monday and is due back in court next month.
