Charges Filed Against Rochester Man Accused of Assaulting Toddler
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office has filed felony charges against a Rochester man accused of assaulting a toddler.
The criminal complaint in the case says a Rochester Police Detective received and reviewed a child protection report from Olmsted County Social Services in November. The report indicated a child under the age of four was covered in marks that suggested a possible assault had taken place.
The detective learned that 23-year-old Eddie Ranardo Sims had picked the child up from daycare on Nov. 10. A woman who lives with the child reported confronting Sims after seeing a bruise on the toddler and Sims told her he had used his key lanyard to discipline the young boy, the complaint says.
11 days later, the toddler told authorities that Sims “whooped” him with a chain after the young boy had gotten kicked out of daycare. A medical report conducted on Nov. 11 showed bruising across the child’s backside and indicated the boy had been hit with a ringed object, according to the complaint.
On Nov. 30 Sims told police he removed his keys and gave the toddler a “whooping” for getting kicked out of daycare, the court document says.
Sims is charged with felony third-degree assault of a victim under the age of four and felony malicious punishment of a child. He’s scheduled to make his first court appearance in February.
