Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester man arrested following a shooting Wednesday night was formally arraigned on related charges Friday in Olmsted County Court.

According to the criminal complaint against 33-year-old Jhovani Soto, Rochester police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of the 4400 block of Manor View Drive Northwest shortly after 9 PM on Wednesday. The court document says the responding officer encountered multiple witnesses who heard two volleys of gunfire and then saw a silver pickup truck speeding away without its headlights on. One witness reported that the first volley of gunfire involved five gunshots, followed by two more shots.

The criminal complaint says the witnesses reported that the person behind the wheel of the pickup was driving recklessly and nearly hit a street sign while exiting the area. A home surveillance video shows the vehicle entering the area where the shooting occurred and then speeding away with its lights off.

According to the charges, police officers located the vehicle parked a few blocks away and saw Soto exiting the vehicle and walking away. The court document says that, as the officers were pursuing him, Soto attempted to climb under the deck at his residence.

The arresting officers reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from Soto. They also reported finding a Glock 9mm handgun in the pickup, along with four 9mm shell casings. The criminal complaint says an empty bottle of alcohol was also located inside the vehicle.

Soto is charged with a felony count of drive-by shooting and gross misdemeanor charges of possessing a pistol in public without a permit and carrying a pistol while under the influence of alcohol. The list of charges also includes a gross misdemeanor DWI charge and a misdemeanor count of illegal transport of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
