Several awards were handed out this morning by the Rochester Committee on Urban Design and Environment. The  26th annual CUDE event recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations for projects that improve the city’s looks and environment.

   The breakfast awards presentation was held at the Mayo Civic Center and among the winners this year were Lourdes High School and the Metropolitan Market Place.

 Community Site Enhancement:

 Institutional:

Phase 2 of 2nd Street SW Project

Attractive and functional: makes use of rain gardens and permeable pavement.

Nice site design and attractive grounds.

 Environmental Innovation and Conservation: Friends of Indian Heights

Volunteer effort that is making great strides in ridding Indian Heights Park of invasive species like buckthorn. Enlists help from folks struggling to get their lives together (such as Silver Creek Corner residents) to help them feel a part of the community.

 Individuals and Organizations: Chris Beighley – Oak Terrace and Parkside Cleanup

Very active cleanup effort that has created a strong sense of community and well being.

Residential Development:

The Skogen Residence - 538 4th Ave NW

Wonderful investment in the renovation of a home in an area that could really use a pick-me-up.

The Jones Residence - 847 1st St NW

Great exterior remodeling both of the home and its outdoor space.
