St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Dodge County Girl's Hockey team has captured the Class A state title for the first time in program history.

The historical achievement involved knocking off a juggernaut, late game heroics, free hockey and a suspenseful review.
The collection of girls from Byron and Kasson-Mantorville High Schools put together a 19-3-2 regular season, capturing the Section 1 title with a 4-1 win over Albert Lea.

It was the onto the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, where the Wildcats allowed one goal in two games, shutting out River Lakes 2-0 in the State Quarterfinal and defeating Holy Angles 4-1 in the semi.

Standing between the Wildcats and their first state championship was Warroad, a program that has captured the last three Class A girls hockey championships.
Three periods was not enough to crown a champ. The game went to overtime tied at 3.
With 1:03 left to go in OT, Zoe Heimer saw her teammate's shot hit the post on the goalie's left side. She scrambled from behind the net and punched the puck across, but there was one problem, she appeared to be the only one at the time who realized what just happened.
To the naked eye, it appeared Warroad had successfully covered the puck. A video review showed everyone what Heimer already saw, the puck inside of the net.
After review Dodge County was awarded the goad and the team rushed the home ice of the Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Frost.
All now releasing they unseated the three-time defending champs to make history.
The team will return to southeast Minnesota Sunday. They're inviting the community to welcome them back to the Dodge County Ice arena in Kasson at 2:30 p.m.
