DWI Offender Arrested in Byron, Suspected of Fentanyl Impairment

Byron, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Minnesota man with a history of DWI convictions over the weekend.

Captain Tim Parkin said a deputy on patrol near Byron stopped a vehicle after reporting numerous traffic violations. The traffic stop occurred in the 300 block of Byron Ave. North around 9 a.m. Saturday. 

Parkin said the deputy noticed drug paraphernalia in plain sight within the vehicle. The deputy also learned the driver, identified as 29-year-old Tyler Deno of Douglas, MN had a driver’s license that was canceled inimical to public safety. 

Parkin said Deno then failed a field sobriety test and that deputies also found burnt tin foil along with more paraphernalia after further examination of the vehicle and Deno. Deno was then booked into the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center on Suspicion of Driving After Cancelation Inimical to Public Safety and felony drug possession.

Parkin said Deno also admitted to smoking fentanyl before driving. Investigators drafted a search warrant and obtained a sample of Deno’s blood that has been sent to the Minnesota BCA for testing. 

Court documents indicate Deno has been convicted of DWI three times since 2017. Parkin said Deno could face a felony first-degree DUI charge pending results of the blood test. Deno is awaiting arraignment in Olmsted County Court.
