High Speed Chase in Rochester Results in Felony Conviction
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM New) - An Olmsted County Jury has convicted a Rochester man on three felony charges stemming from a high-speed chase in Rochester. 32-year-old Jasment Taylor was found guilty of escape from custody, fleeing police and obstructing the legal process after a two-day trial this week in Olmsted County Court.
He was accused of leading local authorities on a chase in September 2016 that began near Stewartville and ended with a crash in Rochester. Court documents say Taylor was pulled over by an Olmsted County Deputy along Highway 63 near the Rochester Airport for a traffic violation when the deputy learned he was wanted on a warrant for a parole violation in Wisconsin, where he had earlier been convicted of an armed robbery.
The deputy tried to take Taylor into custody but he drove off at a high rate of speed in the direction of Rochester. The chase hit speeds of nearly 100 mph and the deputy broke off the pursuit when they neared downtown Rochester on South Broadway. A short while later, the pursued vehicle was found abandoned at the intersection of Civic Center Drive and 6th Ave NW, where officers discovered the driver had fled on foot after crashing it. He was eventually apprehended and returned to Olmsted County earlier this year to stand trial. A sentencing hearing for Taylor is scheduled for August 15th.
