Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Two people were taken to the emergency department following a house fire in Rochester early Tuesday morning.

A news release issued by the Rochester Fire Department says crews responded to the fire call shortly after 2 a.m. 

They found heavy smoke and fire coming from the back side of a residence in southeast Rochester, the news release says.

Rochester Firefighters Battle Early-Morning House Fire in Southeast Rochester

The fire broke out in the 1500 block of 8 ½ Ave SE. Firefighters began attacking the blaze from the back of the home.

The news release indicates a significant amount of the fire was extinguished on the deck. 

Some of the fire had spread into the kitchen and dining room of the home. Crews put out those flames and also searched the structure during the fire fight, the news release says. 

Two People Transported, Pets Rescued

Two of the home’s residents were transported to the emergency department for an evaluation.

Rochester police officers also responded to the fire and removed two dogs from the burning home.

Firefighters found and rescued the occupant's cat. The pets were unharmed, officials say. 

Home Suffers Extensive Damage

The fire was reported to have caused extensive damage to the back of the home and moderate smoke and water damage throughout the home’s main level. 

The cause of the fire is not available. 

Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service, the Rochester Fire Marshals Division, Minnesota Energy and Rochester Public Utilities also responded to the blaze.

Rochester Locals Re-name One Of The Popular Pieces of Art

Just outside the Rochester Art Center is a large, silver piece of art that is labeled "Tapered Arch-Shaped Sculpture" on Google Maps in Rochester, Minnesota. This 30-foot stainless steel piece of art was created by Po Shu Wang and installed in 2017. If you go inside the Mayo Civic Center, you'll also notice a kiosk that allows visitors to interact with this art sculpture.

Since its installation, several nicknames have been given by locals for this piece of art. Below are some of the more common names that people have given this shiny object throughout the years.
