Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A new detour is set to start Monday on a Rochester-area highway.

The closure and detour were supposed to start earlier this month, but the closure was pushed back a week. 

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) indicates the detour is expected to be in place until next month.

Hwy. 30 Detour Southwest of Rochester Airport Starts Monday

Crews will close Hwy. 30 in both directions southwest of the Rochester Airport. 

MnDOT says traffic access to the airport and surrounding businesses from Hwy. 63 will not be impacted.

The detour route is Olmsted County Road 8,10th Street NW, 11th Avenue W and 20th Street NW. 

MnDOT says the closure is to allow crews to replace the culvert at Willow Creek.

Hwy. 30 Project Wrapping Up

 The culvert replacement is part of a larger project to reconstruct the highway southwest of Rochester. 

Crews began working on the highway in August by resurfacing the road, replacing other culverts and improving drainage. 

MnDOT anticipates that the detour to be in place until October 9.
