A high school located in southeastern Minnesota was the target of a break-in that occurred early Sunday morning. The intruder gained access to the campus and caused some damage.

Classes are scheduled to continue as planned without any disruptions on Monday.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Neubeck sent a detailed email to parents and the community early Monday morning detailing the incident.

In his message, Dr. Neubeck explained what had happened, assured the public that authorities were handling the situation, and thanked the local law enforcement agencies for their prompt response and support in addressing the matter.

 

Dear Byron Families,

We want to make you aware of an incident that occurred early this morning at approximately 3:00 a.m. when Byron High School experienced a break-in. The intruder caused damage to some doors on campus. Law enforcement was notified immediately and responded swiftly to secure the building and begin an investigation.

We are grateful to the Olmsted County Police Department for their quick response. After a thorough check of the school, authorities confirmed that it was safe to resume normal operations. As such, classes will continue as scheduled today.

While this situation is understandably concerning, please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. Additional patrols and internal safety checks are in place as a precaution.

We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and will provide updates as more information becomes available. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office.

Statement from Olmsted Co. Sheriff's Dept: 

"On 04/07/25 at approximately 3 AM, Olmsted County Deputies responded to Byron High School for a smoke alarm call. Responding deputies observed a door with broken glass leading into the building. A search of the building was conducted, and no one was located inside. Additionally, an incendiary device was located that was later determined to be a smoke-style device. As this is an active investigation, no further information can be released."
