Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  The bids that were submitted for a major Rochester bridge project were well over estimates but the city Public Works Dept. is recommending approval of the lowest proposal.

Three bids were submitted for the planned replacement of the Elton Hills bridge and the lowest was just over $5-million. The engineer’s estimate was $4.1-million, which was nearly half a million higher than the original budget.

The City Council is scheduled to vote Monday on a recommendation to award the project to Zenith Tech which submitted the low bid. Most of the costs will be covered by federal and state funds.

  • 1. Zenith Tech, Inc. $5,003,712.26
  • 2. ICON Constructors, LLC $5,415,173.99
  • 3. Redstone Construction, LLC $5,574,545.65
    Engineers Estimate $4,109,025.50

If the council awards the bid, work on the project is scheduled to begin in October. The bid contract requires work to be completed by the end of June 2022.

The bridge that crosses the Zumbro River downstream from Silver Lake has structural issues and it was determined last year that replacement was the best option.
