Ailing Rochester Bridge To Be Rebuilt
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The aging Elton Hills Dr. bridge in Rochester will stay as it is - until next year.
The city Public Works Dept. has announced plans to reconstruct the bridge next year at an estimated cost of nearly $4-million.
The city says the bridge is currently safe for vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The city says the structure that carries the loads through the interior beams is structurally sufficient to safely carry vehicle loads in the two lanes of traffic that will remain open.
City Engineer Dillon Dombrovski says, “It is out of an abundance of caution and concern for public safety that the travel lane closures on the bridge will remain in place until the bridge is reconstructed. We look forward to a completed reconstruction project that will provide the community a safe bridge 75 or more years into the future. Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding of the lane reduction.”
