Stewartville, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man with a violent past is now facing a carjacking charge.

That’s according to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court on Friday. The court document says the alleged carjacking happened on April 4. 

Members of the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office first connected with the victim after responding to the report of two men fighting in Stewartville. The suspect had left in the victim’s vehicle before law enforcement arrived, the complaint says.

Rochester Man Accused of Carjacking Lyft Driver at Southern Hills Trailer Park in Stewartville

The victim told law enforcement he had given a customer a ride from Rochester to the Southern Hills Trailer Park at 105 20th St. Northwest in Stewartville. 

The Lyft driver said the customer became angry after learning the fare cost $60. He then grabbed the driver’s neck and hit him in the head, the court document says.

Both got out of the vehicle and the rider hit the Lyft driver again before leaving the scene in the driver’s vehicle, according to the complaint. 

The Lyft driver captured a portion of the altercation on video and law enforcement were able to identify the suspect as 41-year-old Christopher Paul Hilton, the court filing says.

Law enforcement found the driver’s vehicle abandoned in front of a residence along 23rd St. Northwest in Stewartville. Camera footage from the area showed Hilton exiting the vehicle, the complaint says. 

Hilton has been charged by summons and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in November.

Court records indicate Hilton has a criminal history that dates back to 2002 and includes felony convictions for assault, domestic assault and theft. 

Hiltton was charged last year in a felony assault and domestic assault case in which he’s accused of pouring boiling water on a woman. He posted $50,000 conditional bail in that case and is scheduled to go to trial in June.
