Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl who had run away from her home.

According to court documents, the family of the 14-year-old girl reported her missing in April of last year, and while Rochester police were searching for her, officers learned that she had been spotted running north from the Kwik Trip Store at the intersection of 12th Street and 3rd Avenue Southeast. When the officers caught up with her, the girl told them she had encountered a man near the KFC restaurant a few blocks away and observed that he appeared to have a pistol hanging out of one of his pockets.

The criminal complaint says the juvenile girl reported that the man threatened to shoot her if she did not accompany him to his house, where he allegedly ordered her to remove her clothing while threatening to shoot her if she did not comply. The charges alleged that her attacker forcibly undressed her after she refused and then sexually assaulted her.

The victim told police she managed to escape after she saw her attacker go into the backyard at the residence. Court documents indicate she was able to provide the officers with the address of the home, where police found a man lying in the yard. The criminal complaint says the girl identified him as the assailant.

According to the charges, the man was identified as 48-year-old Pacomio Campos-Cano and police indicated he had blood on his hands and body. The arresting officers also reported that they found him smelling of alcohol and lying next to a 12 pack of beer. They also stated that, when he was asked where the blood came from, Campos-Cano provided the officers with an "unintelligible response."

He was charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and his bail was set at $500,000. He had previously been charged with a gross misdemeanor count of criminal sexual conduct that alleged he groped the woman in a Rochester park in November 2023.

Campos-Cano has now entered a Norgaard plea to the charge. That means he admits he is guilty but he has no recollection of his actions due to intoxication.

He is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
