Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has admitted sexually assaulting a young girl multiple times during the summer of 2023.

Court records show that 37-year-old Jonathan Mark Tompkin entered into a plea agreement with the Olmsted County Attorney's Office and is now scheduled to be sentenced in April. The was charged in August 2023 after a family member of the 13-year-old victim reported to Rochester police that they had seen Snapchat messages from Tompkin and witnessed the man kissing the juvenile girl after dropping her off at the residence where she had been staying.

The criminal complaint says investigators interviewed the victim, who told them Tomkin had messaged her on Snapchat earlier that summer and asked her to hang out. The court document says the girl told investigators she refused the invitation, but Tomkin then showed up at the residence and indicated he obtained her location from the social media app.

According to the charges in the case, the young victim told officers that she was fearful of Tomkin knowing where she was staying and went to his residence three or four times. She told investigators that she was raped and sexually assaulted during the visits and that Tomkin would supply her with alcohol and drugs.

It was also alleged that Tomkin showed the girl a gun and threatened to shoot her. When he was interviewed by investigators, the court document says Tomkin denied sexually assaulting the 13-year-old and told the officers he thought she was 23 years old.

Tomkin was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and a felony count of terroristic threats. Under the terms of his plea deal, Tomkin today entered guilty pleas to three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

State sentencing guidelines call for a presumptive sentence of between five and seven years in prison.
