Man Known to Olmsted County Deputies Arrested After 2 Chases in Oronoco
Oronoco, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office arrested a homeless man accused of leading deputies on two different pursuits in Oronoco over the weekend.
Sheriff's Captain Tim Parkin said deputies patrolling the Gold Rush event in Oronoco were dispatched to a domestic assault reported at nearby Oronoco Self-Storage around 6 p.m. Friday. Deputies were also advised the suspect in the reported domestic assault was also attempting to start a fire at the storage facility.
Dispatchers identified the suspect as 47-year-old Frankie Hanson Sr., who Parkin says has a reputation of being uncooperative and dangerous in previous law enforcement interactions. A State Trooper was the first to arrive at the scene and immediately called for assistance.
Parkin said Hanson got into a pick-up and fled the facility at a high rate of speed. Authorities engaged in a pursuit through the side streets of Oronoco and reported Hanson disregarded stop signs and other basic traffic laws.
Hanson was stopped at one point and continued to be uncooperative with law enforcement by arguing and lurching his vehicle forward as he was being commanded to exit the vehicle, Parkin said. He took off in the pick-up a second time, temporarily escaping deputies before being found back at the storage facility.
Parkin said Hanson again refused commands, prompting law enforcement to deploy a taser to get him into compliance. Deputies then wrestled him into a squad car and transported him to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.
Parkin said Hanson was arrested on suspicion of fleeing in a motor vehicle, obstruction, resisting arrest, failing to stop and fourth-degree property damage. Details regarding the damage he’s accused of causing to the storage until was not available Monday morning. Parkin said the pursuits were not in the area of the Gold Rush festivities.
Hanson was previously arrested this past May and charged with obstruction after allegedly attempting to flee deputies serving an arrest warrant against him by jumping into the Zumbro River north of Rochester. Court records indicate Hanson has a criminal history in Olmsted County that dates back to 2001 and includes convictions of false imprisonment, felony criminal sexual conduct, aiding and abetting robbery and third-degree assault.
Correction: A previous version of this story stated the alleged pursuits happened on Saturday.
