Mankato University Cyber Stalker Sentenced to Federal Prison
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to 5-years in prison for a "cyberstalking" conviction involving a Minnesota State Mankato student.
30-year-old Jeffrey Purdy earlier admitted to one count of cyberstalking in federal court. He was accused of harassing, intimidating, and threatening the woman after she declined his repeated romantic advances. Court records say she eventually blocked Purdy from her cell phone and social media accounts.
After that, the charges alleged he used the college's Silent Witness Report to make frequent and violent threats against her. Investigators were able to connect him to the threats by matching an IP address used to submit a report to Purdy.
A news release says the FBI assisted the Mankato Public Safety Department with the investigation.
