St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A surge in the number of tests completed was accompanied by a jump in the number of new COVID-19 cases reported in Minnesota today.

The State Health Department reported over 1330 new COVID-19 infections statewide including 36 new cases in Olmsted County. It was the first time this week the new case total was above 1000. The daily update from the health department also shows over 42,500 completed tests were reported to the state on Wednesday. That is the highest daily testing total in three weeks and puts the daily testing positivity rate at only 3.1-percent.

16 additional coronavirus deaths were reported across Minnesota today. One of them involved an Olmsted County resident who was in their late 90s.

Statewide, Minnesota health officials are reporting over 320,000 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and over 85,000 have received both doses. In Olmsted County, over 15 percent of the population, or just over 23,000 people, have received at least one dose of the vaccine and just over 8000 have been given both shots.
