MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A Minnesota man accused of killing a motorist while fleeing Minneapolis police has been charged in county court.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman says 27-year-old Trevon McMorris, of Brooklyn Park, is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle resulting in death. McMorris was scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday.

Police say the fatal crash occurred Wednesday when Minneapolis officers were conducting a drug investigation. McMorris took off in an SUV and slammed into a sedan driven by 50-year-old Jose Salcido, of Minneapolis. Salcido died at a hospital.

McMorris was convicted April 4 of feeling a police officer in a vehicle. He has a lengthy criminal record that includes 10 convictions for driving with a suspended or revoked license and three convictions for drug possession.
