Minnesota Man Sent to Prison For Killing Man During Police Chase
Becker, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minnesota man was sentenced Friday for leading authorities on a high-speed chase and causing a fatal crash last summer.
The deadly events took place on July 6 after a law enforcement officer spotted a pickup that had been reported stolen in St. Cloud. Court documents say the ensuing pursuit reached speeds of around 100 mph before it ended in a multi-vehicle crash in Becker.

According to the criminal complaint against 22-year-old Bradley Alfred Allen Johnson of Montrose, witnesses told investigators they saw the stolen pickup go airborne as it crossed some railroad tracks and then side-swiped one vehicle before it smashed into the side of a second vehicle. The witnesses reported the pickup then skidded into a nearby convenience store.

The driver of the second vehicle struck by the pickup was identified as 36-year-old Christopher Vyskocil. The criminal charges against Johnson indicated he was airlifted to a hospital with severe head trauma and later died from his injuries. A GoFundMe site was established to benefit his family.
The court documents filed in the case say Johnson, who told investigators that he had used heroin earlier in the day, was charged with three felony counts of fleeing police, including one involving the death of a person. He was also charged with felony criminal vehicular operation, a gross misdemeanor count of the same crime, and a felony charge of receiving stolen property.
He entered into a plea agreement in December and admitted to the charge of fleeing police resulting in death. In exchange, the prosecution dismissed the other charges and dropped its request for an aggravated sentence in the case, which could have been as long as 40 years in prison.
He has been ordered to serve more than 13 years in prison. The judge in the case also indicated that a request for restitution will be heard within the next two months.
