Body Found in Burnt Vehicle Registered to Missing Rochester Man
Byron, MN (KROC-AM News)- Local investigators are awaiting final identification from an autopsy after finding a body in a burnt vehicle that’s registered to a missing Rochester man.

A news release issued by the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office on Friday says deputies responded to the report of a burnt up car around 2:15 p.m. on News Year’s Eve.
Rochester police, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene on Tuesday.

The vehicle, which was located in the 8000 block of Country Club Rd. West in rural Byron, had suffered significant damage and was believed to have been in the area for “some time,” the news release says.
Responding deputies located a body in the driver’s seat of the burnt out vehicle. Authorities learned the vehicle was registered to 76-year-old Uong Ong.
Ong was reported missing to the Rochester Police Department on Dec. 3. His family reported that he left home without his diabetes medication and was believed to have been without the medication for several days.
The news release said the autopsy has been completed and that final identification is pending as of Friday morning.
Officials say the case is ongoing and no further information can be released at this time. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office and Rochester police are continuing to investigate.
